Dr. Amal Saif Al Maani
earned her fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She holds the Certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology and a certificate in Patient Safety, Quality Improvement, and Global Health from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.
Dr. Amal received the Dr. Susan King Award for Epidemiological Research and was the recipient of the 2021 Sasakawa Health Prize. She is a prolific scientific author with numerous published research papers. She serves as an affiliated trainer with the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), a member of the Clinical Microbiology Education Committee, and the leader of research groups. She has also contributed as an external faculty member to the development of online training modules for OMSB and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, focusing on antimicrobial resistance.
Dr. Amal played a pivotal role in the national COVID-19 response team and is an active member of the global community of infection prevention and control practitioners. She is a member of the Gulf CDC supervisory committee, the Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (GLG-AMR), and an emerging leader in the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID).
In her personal capacity, Dr. Amal serves as A Technical Advisor to the WHO Strategic Advisory Group on Epidemic Risks and contributes to global teams conducting Joint External Evaluations of countries’ implementation of International Health Regulations and Emergency Preparedness Systems.
